Awk Wah’s inaugural tape release marks another turn in his unpredictable oeuvre - from recent forays in broken beat-based electronics, and his earlier barebones contact mic based percussion, often limited to the use of a single cymbal.

三接 retreats into an even more private realm. Harsh fragmented tonalities are juxtaposed with volatile enunciations, as it quietly forges blocs of sound joint to another and another, constructing a pathway through hypnotic serialisation that gently drifts through night and day.

Perhaps his most narrative driven with the inclusion of vocals, the album conjures a harsh reality imposed by the legacy of Protestantism: the disavowal of individuality within community, and the work ethic which has found its divine mechanism - the icons of late capitalism - disabling carnal pleasures, while it turns its subjects into addicts tied of the purgatorial cycle of consumption and its partial fulfilment of manufactured desires.

The individual reclaims desire, not by changing the conditions of our reality, but by finding its own malleable repetition. A pathway carved with each resounding mutation, a slippage into a privately constituted realm of elliptical perception where one finds solace and encounters the real through a godless and useless disengagement.

Brimming with irreverence, 三接 reaffirms the singular tract of Awk Wah’s sound trajectory: indifference towards the exterior, retreating to the interior, where ephemeral pleasures of the mundane lay dormant.
